Canada’s Freightzy, Less Emissions partner on carbon offsets

Shipping solutions provider Freightzy has partnered with Bullfrog Power’s sister company, carbon offsets solutions Less Emissions, to launch an industry-leading carbon-neutral shipping program. The two Guelph-based companies will assist customers in mitigating their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Alberta company, Cielo Waste Solutions Corp., could make a serious dent in the growing mountains of waste headed to landfills – that is, if its technology for turning refuse into fuel for trucks and planes goes according to plan.

Nature Fresh Farms has joined the University of Windsor for its $160,000 long-haul transportation project aimed at developing sustainable and energy-efficient shipping options. The project aspires to determine the impact of long-haul electric vehicles on Ontario’s electric grid.

Gladstein, Neandross and Associates (GNA)’s 2020 report outlines its development of four clean vehicle technologies: drivetrains powered with propane; compressed natural gas; batteries; and hydrogen fuel cells. Authors have proclaimed the year, “a landmark … for the clean fleet industry.”

EnerQuality Corporation announced the appointment of Monica Curtis, an industry-recognized energy efficiency champion, as president and CEO. Curtis joins EnerQuality at a time when demand for superior building performance, net-zero development and emerging technologies is creating opportunities for reimagining services.

Eight of the world’s leading insurance companies launched an alliance to help speed up the transition to a net-zero economy. The companies said the Net-Zero Insurance Alliance will help shift underwriting portfolios towards net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The City of Ottawa is launching a home retrofit program to help owners upgrade older homes to waste less energy. Residential buildings cause more than a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions in Ottawa when they heat spaces and water inefficiently.

The Halifax region wants to offer a retrofit program to help reduce energy consumption by 50 per cent. It would be modelled after the municipality’s successful Solar City program. To date, 553 properties have installed solar panels financed through the Halifax Regional Municipality.

The Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre in Bridgewater, N.S. will receive $615,000 from the provincial government for energy-efficiency upgrades to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce operating costs for the centre and allow the arena to continue to operate year-round.
