Canada’s ALDO Group continues climate action

Canadian fashion retailer, the ALDO Group, renewed its climate-neutral certification and continues to take strides toward reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. The company also joined We Mean Business, an international coalition with the goal of accelerating climate action.

The development of sustainable practices to help reduce retailers’ negative impacts on the environment and curb their contribution toward climate change has been a focus for many in the industry. The consumer, too, has increasingly grown environmentally-conscious through the years.

Tourists are back out shopping for the latest fashions, including a growing number of clothes made by homegrown sustainable brands. These fashion labels are the most visible players in Amsterdam’s efforts to create a model for local, circular textile production.

QE Home has launched a partnership with sustainability platform Green Story to offset the carbon footprint of their products. The first national retail chain in Canada to adopt such a program, the company’s carbon neutralizing efforts will begin online.

Ballard is strengthening its global systems integration capabilities for hydrogen-powered vehicles with the acquisition of UK-based Arcola Energy. Formalising the deal on November 12, Ballard said the purchase will both support its growth plan and deepen the company’s UK presence.

The Pembina Institute and GLOBE Series decided to profile the talented women whose work is transitioning Canada to a new energy future. But the broad scope of ways in which they are addressing climate change is truly remarkable.

According to a survey of 3,000 Canadians, more than two-thirds of workers say it’s important for them to work for an employer that’s socially and environmentally responsible. Unfortunately, only 55 per cent of workers agree their organizations are socially and environmentally responsible.
