Kontrol Technologies announces record Q1 revenues

Smart building technology developer Kontrol Technologies Corp. has announced a first-quarter record — revenues of $26.6 million, up 702 per cent year-over-year.

ClearBlue Markets and Deloitte Canada have announced an alliance to provide consulting and support to companies dealing with increasingly complex climate and carbon reporting requirements.

A new report from Capgemini and Efma found that climate change is negatively impacting the insurance industry. Insurers focused on building climate-resilient business models will be better positioned to generate deeper customer trust while also boosting their relevance and profitability.

The world is getting hotter and drier, making the incidence of wildfires more frequent. According to the Insurance Information Institute, the annual number of acres burned in wildland fires has more than doubled in the last two decades.

Airlines and fuel providers are experimenting with using hydrogen to power aircraft and vehicles. According to Edmonton International Airport (EIA) vice president Myron Keehn, the Edmonton area will be using a hydrogen aircraft by 2025 at the latest.

Technologies that capture carbon dioxide are attracting investment from major companies. The latest is a startup called Carbon Clean, which is looking to drive down the cost of carbon capture to an average of $30 per metric tonne.

Zero waste is the focus for Mattress Recycling, whose new multi-million dollar recycling facility — located in the eastern Fraser Valley — has the capacity to take on large commercial clients in a low-emission building powered by hydroelectricity.

NappiCycle is finding new uses for 92 per cent of the soiled diapers that end up in landfills. The company turns used diapers into carbon fibres that bind with asphalt to create roads twice as durable as conventional surfaces.

Dollard-des-Ormeaux is offering financial assistance toward the purchase and installation of residential charging stations for electric vehicles. City council recently tabled a bylaw to launch the domestic-use subsidy program, with the objective of contributing to the fight against climate change.

The United Nations chief on Wednesday launched a five-point plan to jump-start broader use of renewable energies, hoping to revive world attention on climate change as GHG concentrations, ocean heat, sea-level rise, and ocean acidification reached record highs last year.

In a new study published in tandem with the Institute for Sustainable Finance, researchers found that under a business-as-usual scenario, with no further GHG mitigation taken, allowing the climate to warm 5C by 2100 could cost Canada $5.5 trillion.
