Westport Fuel Systems joins World Hydrogen Council

Vancouver-based Westport Fuel Systems joined the World Hydrogen Council, a CEO-level advisory body aiming to provide a long-term vision for the role of hydrogen technology in the energy transition.

Energy experts predict the country will need to double or even triple existing electricity infrastructure. The topic was discussed in the Down to Business podcast as technology is no longer seen as the biggest barrier to reducing emissions in Canada.

With an application process that should be streamlined and a lack of process transparency, developers say that interconnection delays and costs for utility-scale clean energy projects are the biggest barriers to meeting net-zero targets.

The federal government has announced a $165,000 investment in Halton Healthcare to install a total of 36 EV chargers at hospitals in Oakville, Milton and Georgetown, Ont.

Snow Lake Resources Ltd. has outlined plans to develop over 55,000 acres in Manitoba, Canada, into the world’s first all-electric lithium mine. Using the province’s hydroelectricity networks, the entire mining operation can run on 98 per cent renewable energy.

Global personal care brands based in more than 15 countries have partnered in an effort to remove 4,127 tons of plastic waste every year. Partnering with rePurpose Global, the companies plan to go plastic neutral and join waste removal initiatives.

Creating a line of outdoor furniture made of repurposed post-consumer and post-industrial plastic­, one industrial design firm executive has found a way to repurpose materials headed for the dump. Other designers are also following suit.

Toxic chemicals known as PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) have been contaminating drinking water around the globe, threatening people and wildlife, are now being found in outdoor gear and home furnishings sold by major retailers such as Amazon and Walmart.

Swiss Chalet and its packaging partner WestRock have received a PAC Global Award for sustainable design. Swiss Chalet was recognized for its new paper packaging, which is expected to remove 31 million plastic packaging units per year from the system.
