DEEP Earth launches 100MW Sask. geothermal project

Saskatoon-based DEEP Earth Energy Production Corp. has launched a massive geothermal production project in the Deadwood Formation in southeastern Saskatchewan which will supply enough power for approximately 20,000 households.

China, the world’s biggest source of carbon dioxide, responsible for around 28% of global emissions, will aim to hit peak emissions before 2030 and for carbon neutrality by 2060.  President Xi Jinping described steps to this goal speaking to the UN General Assembly.

In its 2019 Global Citizenship Report Avison Young has adopted the UN (SDG) Sustainable Development Goals alignment protocol and becomes a signatory to the UN Principles for Responsible Investment, steps that expand upon its Environmental, Social and Governance and Wellness strategy.

The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) has announced that five companies have joined the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment. These new additions bring the total number of signatories to 100, which is a doubling of participation in the program in just over one year.

When Fortis Inc. updated its five-year plan for capital spending this week, the company highlighted renewable energy as one of its key areas of growth. No doubt, public interest in solar and wind power is a driving factor for the St. John’s-based utility, which owns energy-producing and distributing assets in Canada and the United States.

According to a report commissioned by Energy Storage Canada, were Ontario to deploy a minimum of 1000 MW of energy storage resources, ratepayers would realize an estimated net savings of up to $774 million to over $2 billion over the next decade.

For decades, wood waste from manufacturing was burned, unwanted logs, branches and tops from harvesting were left on site. Today, an increasing amount of that waste is being turned into wood pellets used around the world to produce clean energy.

REI Co-op announced that the retailer is achieving carbon-neutral operations for 2020. The goal was initially set in 2006 under then-CEO Sally Jewell, who put the business on course to measure, report, and lower its greenhouse gas emissions.
