Mercedes-Benz (MBGAF) has opened its first Canadian electric vehicle (EV) charging hubs in Metro Vancouver, utilizing chargers compatible with a wide range of battery-powered cars from other automakers.

The German vehicle maker has launched hubs at the Abbotsford Power Centre, Meadowvale Shopping Centre in Pitt Meadows and Tsawwassen Mills, with plans to open another five over the coming months. Each hub will have eight charging stalls, Ryan Lee, a spokesperson for Mercedes-Benz Canada told Sustainable Biz Canada in an email exchange.

The hubs will be equipped with 400-kilowatt Alpitronic chargers which Mercedes Benz says are capable of adding over 300 kilometres of range in 10 minutes in certain conditions. The charging hubs will be open to all makes and models of EVs, Lee said, and every stall supported by the Combined Charging System 1 and North American Charging Standard connectors, eliminating the need for adapters.

“This network extends the Mercedes-Benz experience, ensuring that whether you're driving one of our EV models or any other EV, you have access to premium infrastructure that makes electric vehicle ownership seamless,” Andreas Tetzloff, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada, said in the announcement.

Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, its New York-based joint venture with MN8 Energy, is responsible for building and operating the charging network in Canada and the U.S. In the U.S., Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging operates a network of over 650 charging stalls.

Future-proofing BGO's properties

The hubs will be located in retail and destination locations. Four of the sites will be developed alongside BGO Properties, a Toronto-based commercial property management and leasing services firm.

Those properties are Sunwood Square in Coquitlam, Squamish Station, Panorama Village in Surrey and Meadowvale Shopping Centre.

The remaining two hubs will be in Woodgrove Shopping Centre in Nanaimo and the Penticton Lakeside Resort.

"As property managers, our role is to create environments that are future-proofed and responsive to the evolving needs of our visitors and communities,” Michelle Brown, head of BGO Properties, said in the announcement.

Mercedes-Benz started building the charging hubs in the fall of 2025, Lee told Sustainable Biz Canada. The automaker anticipates the remaining hubs will be open “in the coming weeks.”

Vancouver was chosen for Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging’s first Canadian hubs because of the province’s strong EV adoption rate, usage which is concentrated in the Metro Vancouver area, Lee said.

Mercedes-Benz plans to evaluate other Canadian markets for future charging hubs, he added.

Mercedes-Benz's EV charging

Mercedes-Benz’s MB.CHARGE Public is an app that allows its customers to access over 12,000 public charging points across Canada. It grants access to operators such as ChargePoint, BC Hydro, Electric Circuit, FLO and Shell Recharge.

The German automaker was one of seven that formed a joint venture in 2023 to create a network of approximately 30,000 EV charging stations across Canada and the U.S.

In 2025, Mercedes-Benz Canada sold 4,563 battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, representing 12 per cent of its overall sales volume.
